Psychology
Vision and Goals
Psychology comes from the Greek words Psyche (soul, breath, mind) and Logos (knowledge, systematic speech). However, psychology does not examine the soul. Psychology is a scientific discipline that aims to study and explain human and animal behavior using a scientific method to reach general laws. Research in this field is based on experimentation and observation. As a scientific field, psychology encompasses many subfields. Clinical, Forensic, Developmental, Counseling, Educational, Social, Cognitive Psychology, and Neuropsychology are among the prominent subfields. The studies conducted in this field are summarized based on scientific data, and Research Techniques and Statistical Analysis play an important role in the application, analysis, and adaptation of psychology research.
Psychology is taught as a 2-year course to students in 9th and 10th grade as Edexcel GCSE 9-1 Psychology in the school curriculum. The Psychology course is elective, and an average of 40-50 students take the Psychology GCSE curriculum in our school. After the 2-year course, students take a two-stage exam on various subfields of psychology at the end of 10th grade.
Successful and interested students continue with the 4-exam A-Level curriculum in 11th and 12th grades. The first stage of this curriculum consists of Social, Cognitive, Biological Psychology, and Learning Theories as AS-Level in 11th grade. The second stage consists of Developmental, Crime, Clinical Psychology, and General Research Methods in 12th grade.
